      After a brief two hour flight from London (low cost airline) we touched down in Oporto, directly into the Golfing territory of Northern Portugal.
I was looking to play golf in the sun, on quality courses that were not over-priced, and also in the unspoilt part of the country.
    
      With 8 Mountain or Links courses to choose from, it was like coming to another world for a golfing holiday.
Within the hour, we were teeing off on one of the best courses in the region.          

       The Ponte de Lima 18 hole golf course, set in the heart of the Costa Verde region, surrounded by mountains and ravines,
vineyards and fruit gardens, soon lived up to its reputation.      
        Following a warm welcome in the clubhouse from the staff, a café and a little snack, and we were off...

       The first nine holes set in the foothills of Monte da Madalena is of a typical mountain course.
The scenery and views over the valley of the River Lima are impressive and well worth it - take my advise a buggy is required here.
There are some stunning holes with the par 5 third hole measuring 622 metres: It is down hill and not quite so daunting as it sounds,
but it is the longest hole in Portugal.

        Lunch in the clubhouse, in the Olival restaurant, a glass of wine and onto the 10^th tee, situated in the Quinta de Pias valley.
Although less hilly it still provides a challenge for even the best golfer.                                                                                                                                                  

        Don’t under estimate this course: Opened in 1995 the 6005 metres (Par 71) with 4 Par 3, 11 Par 4,
 and 3 Par 5 could be difficult even for you.


        With good accommodation on site in the Hotel do Golfe, with swimming pool and health club,
 and only a few minutes from the town centre of Ponte de Lima, you can really do lack for nothing. 

        This was a completely new experience for me, golf courses with the first tee time at 9.00am and
 no one either in front or behind.

                                                                  There is an element of mañana here that only helps in providing the element of relaxation.
